Tiger Is Gun Pre Production

The Videos below document the evolution of the characters performance for scene 13. Originally intended to be a short sharp emergence from the shadows, this performance came to seem too macho, rooted in Predator style body language and posturing. The final shot condensed more layers into the performance: it is animal becoming man, but also like a child taking their first steps. The latter introducing an element of innocence to the character which is truer to the complexities I intended to be woven into the film.
Animation tests for fire and digital painting tests for animation changes in the intensity of colour.
Initial 3D tests in Maya using a cloth simulation for fire.

Graduate Film completed and a 1st class Degree.

Well, I have completed my graduate film Tiger is Gun and received a 1st class degree. Annecy was interesting, surprising variety of content and styles in the films considering the more mainstream focus of MIFA. My film will now be going out into the big world of festivals to meet the public. Time to start looking for a job while also developing more personal portfolio projects. Exciting times!

Interactive Woodland at Royal London Hospital

This is such a great idea put to good use. I wrote an essay for Uni a few months back about interactivity and its impact on narrative and character design. My research lead me to reading about the Virtual Playground project.

The Interactive Woodland at Royal London Hospital produced by Nexus really shows how the idea can be refined with beautiful designs by Felix Massie, and also great use of the space with the giant chairs and television. So much fun.
One of the fascinating things about our childhood perception is the the compression or expansion of space: under the table becomes a den; between the couch and the TV becomes an ocean. That idea is  implemented here nicely. I wanna play too!

Learning Digital Painting

I've only recently started to get used to painting digitally. Painter is just too much, and I keep turning back to Photoshop, I can use my image editing experience there as well. With these painting I've started to do work that isn't completely repellant though still rough.

A couple sketches, a film concept, a couple 'poster' concepts, and a painting to try and get skin colour the way I want it.  Started editing brushes and have a fondness for the dual brush and colour dynamics functions. Otherwise a mix of Medders and IDrawGirls brushes.
